Comprehensive Genetic Testing

“We are all carriers of at least one genetic condition” according to Natera, a leading pre-natal testing company. So I asked the genetic counselor for a pregnant recipient to give me the most comprehensive test on the market. Ironically, male infertility is the only thing that came up with more than a one in tens of million risk. Depending on your ethnicity, there could be between a 1 in 500 to 1 in 1000 chance that sons would be born normal, but as if they had already undergone a vasectomy. Thankfully I clearly do not have that condition :)!

Since everyone is a carrier of something, if you are aware of a donor who does not disclose any carrier conditions, he probably either has not undergone extensive genetic screening or else is deliberately hiding/lying about the results.

Feel free to ask me for more info on my genetic testing, especially if you have a Jewish, Amish, Finnish, or Faroe Islands background.
